The CMEVA midsole provides generous cushioning to absorb shocks from descents and trail irregularities over long distances.
More responsive than the previous version thanks to a new foam, it remains a shoe focused on comfort and stability rather than pure speed.
The Hoka Speedgoat 6 retains the DNA of its success while fixing the minor flaws of version 5. The goal: to offer a more durable, breathable, and slightly lighter shoe, capable of accompanying you on ultra-trails without sacrificing precision.
The midsole uses a new lighter CMEVA compound. Unlike traditional foams that tend to collapse over the miles, this one retains its bounce and shock absorption properties longer.
The feel is a bit firmer and more precise than the Speedgoat 5, offering better stability on technical slopes without losing Hoka's signature softness.
The mesh has been completely redesigned. The Speedgoat 6 features a woven textile upper that provides a more secure fit (less slippage) while being more breathable.
This structure reduces the risk of premature wear caused by rocks and roots, and the fit has been adjusted for better midfoot lockdown.
The outsole retains the reference Vibram® Megagrip rubber, but the orientation of the 5mm lugs (Traction Lug) has been optimized.
Inspired by the chamois hoof, this arrangement improves traction on ascents and secures braking on descents, even on wet or slippery terrain. It's the ultimate all-terrain assurance.
The Speedgoat 6 has a snug fit, typical of Hoka's "Performance" range. The hold is precise, especially at the "toe-box" (forefoot), which may feel narrow.
Our advice: Always take one size up from your street shoe size. If you are between sizes, choose the larger one.
Wide feet? This is a critical point. If you have wide feet, be sure to choose the "Wide" (Large) version to avoid rubbing.
The Speedgoat 6 has a lighter and more resilient midsole foam, a more breathable and durable woven upper, and a revised tongue for more comfort. The grip remains similar, but overall durability is improved.
It is possible on connecting sections (asphalt between trails) because the cushioning is very good. However, the soft rubber lugs will wear out very quickly on abrasive tarmac. Avoid for 100% road use.
The standard model is not waterproof; it favors breathability and water drainage. However, there is a specific Speedgoat 6 GTX (Gore-Tex) version to keep your feet dry in winter.
Thanks to the robust Vibram sole and the denser new foam, you can expect to cover between 600 and 800 km, depending on the abrasiveness of the terrain and your weight.
The Mafate Speed offers even more cushioning and a more technical sole, ideal for very difficult terrain and heavier runners. The Speedgoat 6 is more versatile, lighter, and often more agile for most trail runners.
Yes, absolutely. Its huge cushioning ("Max Cushioning") is very forgiving and reassuring for someone not used to the shocks of the trails. Its grip also secures descents.
If you are coming from a high drop (10-12 mm), a small transition may be necessary to get your calves used to it. However, the curved profile of the sole (Meta-Rocker) greatly facilitates the stride and makes the 5 mm drop very accessible.
