The MTB stem

The stem is one of the essential components of the bike. It connects the MTB handlebars to the fork tube (steering axis).

The stem is also an important adjustment element for the rider. Depending on the size and the degree of inclination, the stem allows you to change the position of your bike considerably and to adapt it to your needs. There are several types of materials used for the manufacturing of the stems: steel, aluminum, titanium or even carbon for the lightness.

Different standards of bicycle stems

There are generally 2 types of standards :

· The "plunger" stem, which exists since the origin of the bicycle and has a fast mechanism of descent or rise of the handlebar.
· The " Aheadset " stem. Less heavy and more rigid, it appeared about fifteen years ago and now equips the majority of bikes.

This latest standard is particularly well suited to mountain biking, offering the user more choice and adjustment.
The choice of the length and the inclination of the stem are important elements in the choice of the stem because they are going to play on the position of the cyclist.

For example, a plunging stem will optimize the position for speed and performance. And a raised position will favor the rider's comfort and handling.
You will find the right MTB stem for your needs in the Alltricks catalog, among many models.
