Trek, a benchmark brand in the world of cycling
Trek Bicycle Corporation is an American company specialising in the manufacture of road bikes and mountain bikes, bike components and cycling apparel.
It markets its products under the Trek, Bontrager, Electra, Diamant and Bcycle brands. Its headquarters are based in Waterloo, Wisconsin. The company started out making steel frames in 1976 under the name Trek Bicycle, with Trek evoking the idea of a journey. The brand grew quickly and went on to offer complete road bikes and then mountain bikes. In 1985 it launched its first aluminium frame, followed by a carbon fibre frame a year later. In 1988 it moved into making clothing for cyclists and began expanding abroad.
In 1992 Trek unveiled its first all-carbon road bike, followed by the mountain bike a year later.
Trek runs a network of international professional road and mountain bike racing teams under the name Factory Racing. In mountain biking, Trek competes in the World Cups in XC, DH and, for the past few years, enduro. January 2016 saw the birth of the Trek Factory Downhill team, a partnership with a team of DH riders. Trek has also sponsored the American cycling team Team Leopard-Trek since 2014.
Trek Travel was created in 2002: a cycling tour operator offering bike trips to enthusiasts all over the world.
The Trek bike ranges
Since it was founded, the Trek bike brand has been positioned at the top of the range, with the aim of offering the best bikes in the world. R&D (research and development) plays a major role at Trek, and the brand's bikes have always been fitted with the latest, highest-performing technologies. One example is the launch of the first Trek mountain bike frame in OCLV carbon in 1993. The brand's reputation has been firmly established ever since.
For the past few years, the flagship models in the Trek bike range have been the Madone on the road, the Superfly for mountain biking and the Session for downhill.
Alongside making bikes, Trek acquired one of the best mountain bike component brands, Bontrager, in the mid-90s, in order to have control over the components on its bikes.
The brand's models are therefore fitted with Bontrager: wheels, stems, bike saddles, carbon handlebars, tyres, bottle cages, …
Trek offers a range of bikes for road, touring, cyclocross, triathlon and bikes for children.
For mountain biking, the range focuses on bikes for trail, cross country and downhill. The brand also offers fat bikes, electric mountain bikes and mountain bikes for children.
Trek also has several city bike models, including versatile options such as the FX in the Fitness range: a cross between a road bike and a city bike, and the Dual Sport bikes for the city and the trails. Electric, leisure and Trekking bikes for touring, plus children's bikes, complete the range.

Trek Bikes has broadened its goals over time: making cycling accessible to as many people as possible.
The American brand has therefore put several initiatives in place, such as eco-friendly packaging, inner tube recycling and an experimental non-profit foundation that helps young people from disadvantaged areas learn to repair bikes of all brands.
