How to convert a MTB/Road wheel to Tubeless?
Whether you want to mount a tubeless road wheel or a tubeless MTB wheel, the methods are identical. That's why we offer you this tubeless MTB and tubeless road tutorial.
Tools: Soft cloth / Degreaser / Tape / Cutter / Tubeless valve / Preventive fluid / Tyre changer / Compressor or CO2
1/ Clean the rim base
With a degreaser and a soft cloth.
2/ Apply the tape
Power Tape type or other on the base of the rim.
3/ Stretch out the tape
Evenly but not excessively.
4/ Press hard
On the scotch tape once the installation is complete to ensure that it is well pressed against the rim.
5/ Locate
The valve, and use a cutter to make a cross-shaped cut in the tape so that the valve can be inserted.
6/ Insert the valve
Into the hole provided for this purpose.
7/ Screw in the valve
Not forgetting the small gasket for sealing.
8/ Mount the first tyre bead
9/ Pour the preventive
Directly into the tyre instead of through the valve. This prevents the product from clogging the valve as it dries.
10/ Close the tyre
By pressing strongly along the bead.
11/ In order not to lose any preventive
Use a plastic tyre lever just to fit the last few inches of the tyre.
12/ Inflate the tyre
With a compressor like the Airshot Tubeless. If you do not have one, take a 16g Co2 cartridge to inflate it. With a foot pump at 4 bars. Between your fingers or on the bike, so that the preventive can spread evenly over the entire surface of the tyre.
Here's a tip: To make it easier to press the tyre beads onto the rim when inflating, spray a few drops of washing-up liquid mixed with water onto the two beads (before fitting). This will allow an instantaneous seating.
