The S5 has just one mission: to get to the line ahead of everyone else. Under the guidance of Wout van Aert, Marianne Vos and Christophe LaPorte, it has already proved to be an unrivalled tool. At the Tour de France 2022, the bike propelled Wout to the highest points score in the modern era. Out of 480 points available, Wout put his closest rival 194 points behind him-tangible proof that Cervélo continues to deliver aerodynamic gains for our World Tour athletes.
The new S5 features deeper frame sections to maximize the shapes allowed by the UCI, a new fork design that helps simplify the entire front end, and increased wheel/tire clearance to accommodate the new Reserve 52/63 wheelset, which we co-developed to deliver an even faster bike.
In total, we've reduced drag by 65 grams and increased surface area while reducing the bike's weight. It's simpler, faster and easier to live with than ever before.
V for Vitesses: In the quest for speed, everyone wants to try out different positions to find the most aggressive one. The S5's iconic V-shaped stem not only inspires confidence at high speeds, it's now remarkably easy to adjust to find the perfect position. All the necessary spacers are supplied with the bike, and there's now just one length of screw, reducing complexity and lightening the system by 53 grams.
The UCI's new aerodynamic design regulations have enabled us to deepen our aero profiles and squeeze a little more performance out of what is already the fastest aero bike on the market. You'll notice a deeper head tube and bottom bracket area, as well as a more aggressive shape on the trailing edges of the tubes. As the new S5 is only compatible with electronic shifting, we've been able to modify the derailleur hanger a little and update the bike's shape.
We've improved the comfort of the handlebars and modified their shape to achieve a perfectly flat transition between the top and the shifters. Instead of the shims of the previous S5 handlebars, we used a two-screw interface that allows infinite adjustment of the inclination between 0 and 5 degrees
