The S5 has only one mission: to get to the line before everyone else. Under the guidance of Wout van Aert, Marianne Vos and Christophe LaPorte, it has already proven to be an unrivalled tool. At the 2022 Tour de France, this bike propelled Wout to the highest points score in the modern era. Out of 480 points available, Wout put his closest rival 194 points behind him-tangible proof that Cervélo continues to provide aerodynamic gains for our World Tour athletes.
The new S5 features deeper frame sections to maximize UCI-approved shapes, a new fork design that helps simplify the entire front end, and increased wheel/tire clearance that accommodates the new Reserve 52/63 wheelset we co-developed to deliver an even faster bike.
In total, we've reduced drag by 65 grams and increased surface area while reducing the bike's weight. It's simpler, faster and easier to live with than ever before.
V for Speeds: In the quest for speed, everyone wants to try different positions to find the most aggressive one. The S5's iconic "V" stem not only inspires confidence at high speeds, it's now remarkably easy to adjust to find the perfect position. All the necessary spacers are included with the bike, and there's only one length of bolt left, reducing complexity and making the system 53 grams lighter.
The UCI's new aerodynamic design regulations have allowed us to deepen our aero profiles and squeeze a little more performance out of what is already the fastest aerodynamic bike on the market. You'll notice a deeper head tube and bottom bracket area, as well as a more aggressive shape on the trailing edges of the tubes. Since the new S5 is only compatible with electronic shifting, we were able to tweak the derailleur hanger a bit and update the bike's shape.
We improved the comfort of the handlebars and changed their shape to provide a perfectly flat transition between the top and the shifters. Instead of the shims of the previous S5 handlebars, we used a two-screw interface that allows infinite adjustment of the tilt between 0 and 5 degrees
