Werner Riethmann and his development team are working on a new manufacturing method to make hiking boots lighter. This lightness, hitherto reserved for leisure and running shoes, became an essential criterion for the manufacture of hiking boots. For the first time, LOWA developed a shoe whose sole was not glued, but molded by direct injection: the famous RENEGADE.

• DOUBLE INJECTION: when upper and sole become one: to guarantee a high level of cushioning and comfort, the sole of the RENEGADE GTX MID shoe is attached to the upper by a sophisticated injection-molding process. To achieve this, the upper part of the shoe is placed in a specially designed mold: several layers of polyurethane foam are then injected into this mold, so that the sole becomes one with the upper.
• SUPPORT FRAME: Comfortable structure: the midsole of the RENEGADE GTX MID supports the foot with its LOWA MONOWRAP® structure for optimum comfort. This three-dimensional midsole design was developed by LOWA in 1995: the structure surrounds the foot and supports it on uneven terrain. On shoes with SUPPORT FRAME, the entire sole is slightly raised.
• TWO ZONE LACING: For a shoe that fits like a glove: Featuring two-zone lacing technology, the RENEGADE GTX MID model includes separate lacing zones on the forefoot and upper. In this way, the shoe can be customized to the foot anatomy and laced differently for ascents and descents.
