The race-day running shoe that breaks all records, beloved by ultrarunners.
Focus, conquer the distance | In the relentless pursuit of distance, ultrarunners often experience swollen feet. With the R1, your toes can relax and fully enjoy the run thanks to the wide upper and generous platform, while the dual-zone TUNEDFIT™ lacing system offers a customizable fit for the forefoot and midfoot separately.
Discover consistency | To create the smoothest possible stride, Mount to Coast drew inspiration from the automotive industry to create ZeroSag™, the revolutionary midsole insert co-developed with BASF. Durable, comfortable, and offering impeccable energy return regardless of temperature, ZeroSag™ guarantees extraordinary cushioning on the longest runs.
The path to excellence | LightCELL™, the brand’s exclusive midsole base material, starts as a unique hybrid compound before being infused with pure nitrogen to create a supercritical foam. The result is a material 50% lighter than EVA, offering 45% more energy return.

The R1 Makes History
In the spring of 2024, before the shoe’s official launch, British ultra-runner Justin Montague took a pair of R1s to the northernmost point of Scotland to run the JOGLE, a multi-stage ultra-marathon connecting the southernmost tip of England. Over 17 daily stages, he covered 854 miles (1,374 km), setting a time nearly 40 hours faster than the previous record and breaking the record for every single daily stage along the way.
This result was just a warm-up. Since then, the R1 has guided athletes to countless personal, national, and world records, culminating in two of the most prestigious records in ultrarunning. First, in the spring of 2025, American runner Meg Eckert covered 603 miles to shatter the women’s six-day world record. Then, less than a month later, Belgian endurance athlete Matthieu Bonne broke the 29-year-old 48-hour world record with 301 miles.
Records are meant to be broken, and the R1 is here to shatter them.
