BMX Racing
BMX racing is a biking discipline. It is a very exciting form of cycling (to take part in and to watch).
To excel in this discipline, riders must be strong, have nerve, tactical ability and very good technical skills.
It is a cheap form of cycle sport - if not the cheapest - to get into. There are many tracks around the country and Bike / Gear prices are affordable for the newbies.
Top BMX Riders are athletes highly-trained but it is a sport more accessible that people might think. Many clubs, tracks and coachs will allow riders of all ages to begin this sport.
BMX Race Bikes
BMX Bicycles are very simple and very strong. The standard wheel size is 20 inch but 24" wheels are also available (Cruiser BMX).
Bikes have only one gear and just a rear brake.
Several frame sizes are available to fit all riders (young or larger and older riders).
To help you choose your BMX frame size, use the size chart below to get you on the right frame:
- Micro: Rider Height between 3'3"" (100cm) and 3'9"" (115cm)
- Mini: Rider Height between 3'9"" (115cm) and 4'5"" (135cm)
- Junior: Rider Height between 4'5"" (135cm) and 4'9"" (145cm)
- Expert: Rider Height between 4'7"" (140cm) and 5'1"" (155cm)
- Expert XL: Rider Height between 4'11"" (150cm) and 5'5"" (165cm)

High end bikes can be expensive as they use top class components and high tech materials (carbon, titanium...) but entry level bikes are very affordable.
BMX Racing venues
This sport takes place on indoor and outdoor tracks (purpose built). The track is made of dirt and tarmac or concrete and is more less 400m long.
On a typical track, you can find a starting ramp, berms and many jumps (gap, tabletops...).
To learn, many clubs can lend bikes, helmets and other protections to get a taste for BMX Racing without making a huge financial commitment.
