Bicycle brake pads

Brake pads are the essential part of the brake system and must be in perfect condition to operate properly and allow you to ride safely.

The bicycle brake pads are located on a drum brake system or disc brakes, which frictionally engage the surface of the disc to slow down and stop the rotation.

They can be made of metal, semi-metal, ceramic or be organic and are mainly used on mountain bikes.

How to choose your brake pads?

  • Check if the brake pads fit with your model of disc brakes.
  • Choose a pad material according to your practice.

Remember to regularly check the wear and tear of your pads. To maintain them, we advise you to use sandpaper and a degreasing product.

MTB brake pads, stop in time!

Have you had many mountain bike excursions on your last mountain trip and have put your MTB tyres and brake pads to the test?

If there is indeed a piece to look closely at on your MTB disc brakes, it's the brake pads!
The MTB brake pads are to the disc brakes what are the MTB V-Brake: they are indispensable parts for braking!

From a mechanical point of view the MTB pads work when the pilot pulls the brake levers. It's via cable or hydraulics that the pads will be put in motion and get closer to the disc in order to block it completely to stop the MTB.
The disc brake system is therefore very efficient in MTB as it involves power, reliability and durability.

MTB brake pads: how to choose your pads

For a good choice of MTB brake pads, you must first know the model well. Indeed according to the brands and the models there are several types of MTB brake pads. The choice of pad doesn't depend on your MTB, but the model of your disc brakes!

Then we have to choose the brake lining's material according to your preferences.

There are 3 major types of materials for MTB pads:
- The metal trim
- The organic trim
- The semi-metallic trim

To make it simple, the material that will offer you more sensations is the organic one, which is very effective. However, it's a material that wears out faster than others and is less effective in wet conditions. They are well suited for crosscountry and enduro use.
The metal pads are more resistant and durable. They are more effective on wet lands than organic ones, however you will have less sensations. They are suitable for use as free ride and DH.
Finally, semi-metallics are a good compromise since they are versatile.

On our Alltricks site you will find the MTB brake pads which will suit you among the best brands and many models: Avid, Magura, Shimano, Sram,...

Find all our MTB brake pads on Alltricks at unbeatable prices delivered within 24/48h.
