San Marco: Italian know-how since 1935
San Marco has its origins in Italy in the city of Rossano Veneto.
In 1935 Luigi Girardi, the founder, had the idea to make saddle covers to prevent them from wearing out too quickly. He initially used the same fabric as the military coats,
then in 1940, he created a factory and started the production of leather saddles.
Made with metal components and leather of a certain weight, the saddles were quite heavy, a sign of quality at the time. The San Marco saddle soon became a reference for the pro who used it with, for example, Fausto Coppi, who won the Giro d'Italia for the fifth time in 1953.
The San Marco saddle: synonymous with innovation and quality
In 1980, San Marco launched the first anatomical saddle named Concor, a turning point in the production of bicycle saddles thanks to its revolutionary shape. Since then, the saddles have a narrower shape with a nylon base, foam padding and leather cover.
Always at the forefront of innovation, San Marco is the first manufacturer to use Itanium then carbon on the saddle rails in 1991 and then manufacture a saddle line for mountain biking in 1993.
Since the San Marco saddles have continued to evolve to become even lighter and more ergonomic in order to optimize comfort and performance. Some models are inspired by the 80s, recalling the prestige of the past, and adapting perfectly to a vintage bike.
