How to change your brake cables?

For a smooth shifting, change your Road or MTB brake cables and adjust your derailleurs.
Typical tools: 5mm Hex Wrench / Screwdriver / Cable cutter.

Step 1

Remove the cover on the shifter.

Step 2

Cut off the cable end using cable cutters . Loosen inner wire pinch bolt.

Step 3

Remove cable from the shifter.

Step 4/5/6

Remove and change the cable housings from the bike, if necessary.

Step 7

Insert new cable into the shifter.

Reinstall cable housings.

Step 10

Route cable to the derailleur.

Step 11

Pull cable tight using your fingers and tighten the cable pinch bolt.

Step 12

Cut off the excess cable. Install new cable end and crimp it.

Step 13

Replace the cover on the shifter.
