At the moment of impact, this plate flattens to absorb the shock, then snaps back into shape to propel you, creating a unique suspension effect.
A layer of PEBA foam (the most responsive) is placed closest to the foot for immediate bounce.
It sits on a denser bottom layer of supercritical EVA, which ensures stability and durability for this massive platform.
With a height of nearly 50mm, stability is crucial. Hoka uses a deep "bucket seat" design: the sole walls rise high around the heel.
Your foot doesn't sit on the shoe, but in the shoe, guaranteeing secure guidance without rigid corrective elements.
The Hoka Skyward X fits normally ("True to size"). The flat-knit upper is comfortable and adapts well to different foot volumes.

Not really. Although it has a carbon plate, its weight (about 320g) places it in the "Super Trainers" category. It is made for training and comfort, whereas racing shoes (like the Rocket X 2) are much lighter.
Yes, surprisingly so. Hoka compensated for the extreme height (48mm at the heel) with a very wide base and a deep bucket seat that holds the heel well. It is very stable for a neutral shoe.
In this case, the convex carbon plate serves primarily as a suspension system. It compresses and returns energy to smooth the stride and reduce fatigue, rather than for seeking pure performance like an elite model.
The Mach X is lower, lighter, and designed for "Tempo" runs (higher speeds). The Skyward X is much higher, plusher, and intended for steadier paces or long endurance outings.
