Avinox M2S vs. Bosch Performance CX Gen 5
The Bosch CX Gen 5 is the historic reference in electric MTBs, and for good reason: reliable, well-integrated, with the densest service network on the market, and compatible with a very large number of frames.
However, in raw numbers, the Avinox M2S has the edge: 150 N·m vs. 100 N·m, 1,500 W vs. 750 W, 800% assistance vs. 400%. It is also a step ahead in connectivity: integrated GPS chip for phone-free navigation, automatic assistance adjustment based on heart rate, and 4G location via nano-SIM without relying on Bluetooth. Bosch offers similar features but requires more accessories or the companion app.

Avinox FAQ
The M2S is the high-end version. Its main innovation is flat wire winding (vs. round wire on the M2), which increases power density by 46%, improves thermal management, and achieves an efficiency of 84.5%. In practical terms, the M2S offers 130 N·m in normal modes (vs. 110 N·m), 150 N·m in Boost (vs. 125 N·m), and a peak power of 1,500 W (vs. 1,100 W). It is also the quietest thanks to its double-engagement helical gears, which eliminate mechanical play.
Yes. The 1,500 W power and 150 N·m Boost torque of the M2S are only available with the FP700 and RS800 batteries, which integrate 4680 cells. With FS800 or FS600 batteries, the system is capped at 1,300 W. This is an essential point to check before purchasing.
The nano-SIM card is optional but unlocks important features. Without a SIM, the system works via Bluetooth with your phone for navigation, settings, and location. With a 4G nano-SIM (standard, available from all operators), the bike is permanently connected: you can locate it in real time even without a phone nearby, automatically sync your ride data to the cloud, control assistance parameters remotely via the app, and receive anti-theft alerts even if you are far from the bike. The SIM fits into a dedicated slot under the screen (accessed with a Torx key). Important: If your SIM has a PIN code, you must deactivate it from a phone before inserting it; otherwise, the screen cannot connect to the internet.
The Avinox anti-theft system works on multiple layers. First, a digital password to enter on the bike's screen. Second, Mobile Key Unlock: if your paired phone is nearby, the bike unlocks automatically at startup without entering the code. Third, motion detection: if the bike is moved while locked, the screen sounds an alarm, and you receive a notification on the app. Fourth, real-time location via Bluetooth or 4G (with SIM): you see the bike's position and trajectory on a map in the app. Fifth, compatibility with Apple's Find My network, which works without a SIM via nearby Apple devices. The system is designed to be multi-layered: even if someone tries to remove the SIM (which requires disassembling the screen with a Torx key), the alarm triggers, and the motor remains locked without your Bluetooth phone nearby.
By activating the Smart Heart Rate Control function in the Avinox Ride app, you can connect an Apple Watch or a Bluetooth heart rate monitor. You set your target heart rate zone, and the system automatically adjusts assistance to keep you in that zone — very useful for training in heart rate zones without constantly monitoring your screen. This feature does not exist natively with Bosch or other competing motor manufacturers.
Walk mode is activated by a long press on the assistance decrease button. Once activated, hold the button down to get push assistance up to 6 km/h. The system also includes anti-rollback on slopes to prevent the bike from rolling backward during a stop on an incline. Assistance stops automatically as soon as you release the button or exceed 6 km/h. Bonus feature: in Walk mode, lift the rear wheel and press the derailleur lever twice to shift gears without pedaling — very practical for selecting the right gear before tackling a technical section.
Yes, this is one of the system's strengths. The Avinox screen has an integrated GPS chip and a touchscreen. You import your tracks from the app (GPX, FIT, Komoot, TCX), and they are stored on the system. During the ride, the route displays turn-by-turn on the screen with sound alerts, without needing the phone in Bluetooth. With a 4G nano-SIM card, this autonomy is total: navigation, location, and data sync are done without a phone.
Yes. The Avinox control screen is equipped with a USB-C port. Plug in a USB-C cable, turn on the screen, and your phone or any other compatible device charges directly from the bike's battery. Practical for long rides.
Yes. The M2 and M2S motors have a 41% reduction in pedaling resistance compared to previous generations, thanks to the double-engagement helical gears. The M1 is rated "moderate" on this criterion, the M2 "low," and the M2S "very low." Pedaling without assistance on an Avinox M2S e-MTB is therefore entirely feasible.
According to Avinox, the battery capacity may be slightly affected after 500 full charge cycles, without significant impact on riding. To preserve lifespan: charge between 0°C and 40°C, avoid leaving the battery below 10% for too long, do not overcharge (unplug once charged), and if you store the bike for several months, discharge the battery to 30% and remove it from the frame. A full charge/discharge cycle every three months is recommended for prolonged storage.
Updates are done Over-The-Air (OTA) via the Avinox Ride app, without needing to visit a workshop. When an update is available, a notification appears in the app. Make sure you have enough battery before starting the update, maintain a stable Bluetooth connection, and do not move the bike during the process. New features and fixes arrive directly on your bike.
For demanding enduro or trail use, the Avinox M2S stands out in terms of raw performance (torque, power, assistance ratio) and autonomous connectivity (built-in GPS, 4G via SIM, native heart rate control). The Bosch CX Gen 5 remains our top seller for good reasons: a very dense service network, compatibility with a very large number of frames, proven reliability over several years, and well-developed connected features via the eBike Flow ecosystem. The choice depends above all on your priorities: maximum power and connected autonomy for Avinox, mature ecosystem and peace of mind for Bosch.
