The
AbsoluteBlack Narrow Wide Oval Direct Mount Aerodynamic Chainring is designed for
Sram Force and
Rival cranks where the spider can be replaced by a direct mount chainring. Suitable for GXP and BB30 cranks. It is a 1X chainring with reduced width. Ideal for Triathlon, Criteriums and Time Trials.
Oval chainrings do not produce more force, they increase pedalling efficiency through better transmission of force. This means that you don't necessarily get further by pedalling harder. But the less force you lose, the more energy you keep, allowing you to pedal harder when you need to and thus reducing your general fatigue. That's why you can ride faster, longer and further with oval chainrings.
Studies conducted by the University of Primorska, Slovenia, show significant differences between the use of
AbsoluteBlack Oval chainrings and conventional round chainrings. It is proven that using an oval chainring can provide up to a 9% increase in pedal stroke efficiency, up to 7% less oxygen consumption, 15% less breathing and up to a 10% decrease in heart rate.

FOR WHO THE 1X AERO CHAINRING FOR SRAM CRANKS IS DESIGNED ?
It is designed for anyone looking for additional aerodynamic gains and increased performance. It is ideal for triathlon, time trial or criterium bikes where a single front chainring can be used successfully. The chainrings feature our unique narrow and wide tooth profile for a guide-free construction.
ADVANTAGES OF AERO OVAL DIRECT MOUNT CHAINRINGS :
- Most aerodynamic chainring ever created that fits directly onto the crank arm.
- The slimmest design to provide excellent strength-to-weight ratio and aerodynamics (patent pending grooved structure).
- Unique special oval shape that helps you climb faster (patent pending).
- Unique narrow and wide tooth profiles (patent pending) to keep your chain in place without a guide.
- Superb quality and great looks.
- You'll ride faster using ovals. If you continue to use round rings, the others will become faster.
- You won't feel the oval shape at all.
- Reduces wear and tear on the knees and helps keep your legs cooler for longer.
- Reduces the risk of cramps
HOW TO MOUNT THE AERO OVAL CHAINRING ON THE SRAM CRANK :
First of all, you need to remove the crank from the bike. Once the crank is removed, unscrew these 3 t-25 torx screws from the crank. Then remove the spider+chain combo you currently have. Clean the splines and put some grease on them. Position the chainring in place (note that there is only one way to mount this Sram chainring, so you don't have to worry about how to do it). Tighten the 3 screws to about 5-7 Nm.
WHY OUR OVAL CHAINRING IS MORE AERODYNAMIC THAN ANY OTHER OFFER :
- Firstly, a full direct fit tray will always be more aerodynamic than 4 or 5 screw options.
- Secondly, our unique grooved outer surface further reduces drag.
It is well known that the drag coefficient of a dimpled golf ball is much lower than that of a smooth ball. Numerous studies have shown that turbulence is generated by the instability of the shear layer that separates from the dimpled edge and delays the separation of the flow, making it more aerodynamic. The dimpled structure generates 220% less drag than a smooth surface. However, recent studies by leaders in the golf industry show that a new dimpled surface can be manufactured with almost the same drag reduction as a smooth surface.
Why is this important ?
Because the grooved surface is more practical to manufacture on various bicycle parts such as chainrings. The grooved surface could significantly reduce the drag generated by the large, smooth "aerodynamic" chainrings currently on the market.
Some facts you should know :
- It is well documented that the grooved surface of the sphere generates less drag when running well below 150 rpm. In fact, it generates less drag when not rotating at all!
- It is well documented that the grooved surface generates less drag when moving at speeds of 10-15 m/s (36-54 km/h). Therefore, the grooved surface on various flat parts, such as Absoluteblack Aero trays, is the most preferable way to further reduce drag.
