The road bike derailleur
The road bike derailleur makes it possible to pass from one gear to the other by actuating a handle on the handlebar which will then move the chain laterally on the chain rings and pinions.
It's composed of several elements including the front derailleur and the rear derailleur. On the rear derailleur, which includes a thread and tensioners to assist in the passage of the chain, it's important to choose a short thread for road biking. Indeed, it will adapt better to a cogset of small capacity, which is the one most often used for the road.
How to choose your road bike derailleur
- Check if the derailleur is suitable for road use with a small capacity cogset.
- Choose a size that matches your chain ring type (double or triple).
Remember to properly maintain your road bike derailleur so that it lasts longer!
