MTB Rear Shocks

A rear shock is the heart of any full suspension frame.
They appeared on few mountain bikes in the early 90s. At this time, frames using a rear shock absorber were not very efficient as they tended to bounce (up and down) while pedaling, a movement named kickback or pedal bob. The result was a loss of power during climbs. Also, suspensions had a negative impact while braking as they compressed and lost the ability to absorb impacts and bumps.

Today, bike and suspension manufacturers have made great advances and many riders are benefiting from the comfort and performance provided by rear shocks. Suspension frames and full suspension mountain bikes are also more affordable and available even on low range bicycles.

To make it simple, a rear suspension is made of two telescopic tube sliding into each other, a spring mechanism and bushing.

If you want to upgrade or replace a worn rear shock, you will have to choose the correct size:
- Eye to eye length so the shock can fit into your current MTB frame.
- Stroke length which is the amount in mm by which the shock compresses when completely loaded.

Note: the Bike's travel does not determine the shock length. The travel is mostely determined by the geometry and the type of suspension design (Single Pivot, Horst Link, Virtual Pivot Point...).
You must know the eye to eye length and stroke length

At Alltricks.com, we have a full range of Rear shocks for your Bicycle from the biggest brands: RockShox, Fox Racing Shox, Magura, DT Swiss...
