Gitane, the French reference on the cycling market
Gitane is the unmistakable French bike brand which exists since 1925. Its founder Marcel Brunelière began by commercializing detached bicycle parts until 1926, when he sold bicycles under the brands GMB and Marbu. In 1930, Gitane manufactures its own bikes. With frames first manufactured in France and then in Asia, Gitane is increasingly tending to master the whole production chain today: from design to distribution through manufacturing. It has a manufacturing site in Romilly sur Seine in the Aube department, France. The Gitane bike is created by enthusiasts who make every effort to propose the best model according to every cyclist's practice.
The designers follow the latest trends to develop functional and ergonomic bikes that are consequently tested in a laboratory, painted, decorated and then assembled before going to the points of sale in France and abroad.
Gitane has sponsored professional cyclists since 1948, including Jacques Anquetil, Bernard Hinault and Laurent Fignon. Between 1963 and 1984, the brand won 10 times the Tour de France, an undeniable proof of the quality of its bikes.
In the 1990s, the brand also sponsored MTB teams.
