The leading edge of technology

Hope, an institution of British manufacturing since 1989. The brand created by Simon Sharp and Ian Weatherill is known and loved throughout the MTB world for their beautifully machined disc brakes, stems, hubs, cranksets and a plethora of other homegrown products.

Hope Technology timeline

1989
Ian Weatherill and Simon Sharp create a cable-operated MTB disc Brake calliper for their bikes.

1991
After a move to a larger factory, Hope Technology is set up to sell their cable disc brakes. They also release their 1st hub using sealed cartridge bearings and a 6 bolts rotor mount.

1992
Fourteen pair of Hope brakes appear on MTB at the interbike trade show in the United States, it is the consecration! The company invest in their first CNC Machine.

1994
Hope launch their 1st hydraulic brakes.

1996
Top world cup riders sponsored by other brands are using Hope products with the logo covered up. The rider Rob Warner wins a world cup with a pair of hope hydraulic brakes.

1997
The first big move took place. The brand move to Barnoldswick and triple the factory size.

1999
Every downhill rider in the national top 10 is using Hope Brakes. Legendary Steve Peat comes 2nd in world cup series and he wins National Champs on Hope brakes.

2000
Hope Hub now accepts both 20mm through axles and QR skewers. After a year of prototyping on Steve Peat"s bike, a four piston brake reaches production.

2001
Paul Lasenby, an Elite XC rider claims "If you don’t have discs then you are at a disadvantage." after his 1st race on the new Mini brakes.

2002
The first Hope headset land on the market. This headset comes with stainless bearings, plenty of seals and is available in many anodized colors.

2003
The new brake Mono6ti arrives. It is based on motor bike calliper with its six titanium pistons.

2004
Sh1t Shifter cleaner is launched. A serious competitor to Muc-Off Nano Tech Bike Cleaner !

2005
Hope Technology introduce a complete range of Freeride an XC stems.

2007
The Moto V2 brakes introduce the 1st vented disc for Mountain Bike. Led lights and factory built wheelsets are added to the range.

2008
Second big move for the company. This time, Hope move to 56 000 square feet premises. External bottom brackets are introduced.

2011
The very famous Hope Pro 2 Evo hub arrives.

2012
Hope move into their current premises. The size: 89 000 square feet! F20 flat pedals are launched.
Marty Ashton uses Hope wheel on his road bike during Road Bike party video. He only got on puncture! No damage to the wheels!

2015
After many years of prototyping, the new hope crankest is finally launched.
