The Ideal Runner
- All Profiles: The SC Elite v5 stands out for its absolute focus on performance. It is aimed at intermediate to advanced runners with an efficient stride who are looking for a lightweight supershoe to break their personal records.
- Gait Type: Ideal for universal (neutral) gait with a midfoot or forefoot strike, allowing you to fully benefit from the aggressive curvature and carbon plate.
The Perfect Use
- Race Day: This is its primary purpose. Lightweight and propulsive, it is the ultimate weapon for your official competitions where every second counts.
- Distances from 10K to Marathon: Its thick foam (40 mm at the heel) provides the necessary protection to handle 42.195 km while maintaining enough dynamism for shorter distances.
- Quality Sessions (Intervals / Target Pace): Excellent for validating your specific paces during demanding workouts, but not recommended for slow or recovery runs.
What Size to Choose for the New Balance FuelCell SuperComp Elite v5?
The New Balance FuelCell SC Elite v5 has a very competition-oriented fit with its single-layer FantomFit upper. It provides a very close fit (lockdown) to prevent any slippage at high speeds.
Our Advice: Although the shoe fits true to size for running, we recommend selecting your usual running shoe size (typically one size up from your casual shoes).
Wide Feet? The fit is designed anatomically but remains typical of a "racing" shoe. If you have very wide feet or are between sizes, the standard width of this shoe might feel a bit tight compared to New Balance's daily training models.

Unlike the previous version, which had a 4 mm drop, the SC Elite v5 has an 8 mm drop (40 mm at the heel and 32 mm at the forefoot). This change allows for a smoother transition and further relieves the calves and Achilles tendons over long distances.
The SC Elite v5 is the ultimate competition shoe, equipped with a carbon Energy Arc plate for aggressive propulsion. The Rebel v5 is its ideal ally for daily training: it has the same dynamic and lightweight foam but does not include a rigid plate, allowing the foot to work more naturally during regular sessions.
Yes, it is equipped with a full-length carbon fiber plate using New Balance's Energy Arc technology. Its hollowed geometry under the midsole maximizes energy storage during compression to release it powerfully during push-off.
It is incredibly versatile for road competition. Its remarkable performance makes it a top choice from 10K to marathon. Its 40 mm PEBA foam excels particularly in protecting you over the mythical 42.195 km distance.
This model is not ideal for beginners. It is a technically demanding shoe that requires a certain pace to "activate" the propulsive effect of the carbon plate. A beginner would be better off with a plate-free model (such as the Fresh Foam X 1080), which offers more tolerance and stability at slower paces.
The SuperComp Elite v5 is ultra-lightweight. It weighs approximately 215 grams for the men's model and 165 grams for the women's model, which is particularly competitive compared to other "supershoes" on the market.
Despite its lightweight, the new 100% PEBA foam proves to be very resilient and retains its bounce impressively over the kilometers. Combined with a thin but durable rubber outsole in wear areas, you can expect excellent performance beyond 300 kilometers, a very good score for a race-day shoe.
