What to do if you are in between bike sizes?
If you are on the edge of two different bike sizes, don't worry, you'll probably be ok on either size (rather than thinking that one size will be awful and the other will fit). Indeed, bikes are adjustable: the seatpost can slide up and down, the saddle can move backwards and forwards and you can even switch out parts like the stem for different sized ones to help the bike fit better.
Finding out whether or not you should pick a bigger or a smaller frame is sometimes as simple as personal preference, but there are a few simple ways to work out which might suit best:
- If you’re flexible, you might prefer a shorter head tube, so the smaller size might work out better for you. You can use a longer stem to make the reach more comfortable.
- On a bigger bike, the reach to the handlebars will be longer. This means that if you have proportionally longer arms, you might be more comfortable on a bigger frame.

Marianne Vos and Wout van Aert have shone on every course from Namur to Zolder, winning a dozen world, European and national titles between them. Based on their feedback, we have fine-tuned every detail of the R5-CX to bring it up to world championship level. Although the R5-CX is currently reserved for professional racers, it will be available to the general public in the summer of 2022.
The R5-CX made its debut at the North American World Cup with Marianne Vos taking an impressive win in Waterloo followed by a big stage in Iowa. He is now competing on the European circuit with 13 wins for Marianne Vos and Wout van Aert, including a national championship in the Netherlands and Belgium. And most recently, with a world championship title in the Elite Women's race.
You may recall that this is not our first cross-country bike. In 2007, we built two R3 Cross frames for Jonathan Page, one of which allowed him to become the first American to reach a World Cup podium. Like the R3 Cross, the R5-CX owes much of its performance and design to the R5, but with a few key differences. This model features handling and fit based on feedback from Wout and Marianne. And, while keeping the asymmetrical BBRight buckets, we threaded them into a T47 size hole. While unique, this configuration uses standard internal and external T47 bases.
Product Pluses:
- In addition to enhancing flexibility, the D-post (with double clamp, stock) was specifically requested by Wout and Marianne to keep the saddle facing forward in case of a fall.
- All cables run inside and the frame is only compatible with electronic drivetrains to limit the penetration of gravel and water.
- Bottom bracket with asymmetrical T47 standard.
- Integrated headset with 1 1/4" x 1 1/2" dimensions.
