Introducing the AbsoluteBlack Premium Oval Chainring 110/4 BCD. This is the most premium oval chainring on the market with scientifically proven performance gains.

Oval chainrings don't produce more force, they increase pedalling efficiency through better force transmission. This means that you won't necessarily go further by pedalling harder. But the less force you lose, the more energy you keep, allowing you to pedal harder when you need to and thus reducing your general fatigue. That's why you can ride faster, longer and further with oval chainrings.

Studies conducted by the University of Primorska, Slovenia, show significant differences between the use of AbsoluteBlack Oval chainrings and conventional round chainrings. It is proven that using an oval chainring can provide up to a 9% increase in pedal stroke efficiency, up to 7% less oxygen consumption, 15% less breathing and up to a 10% decrease in heart rate.

NOTE :
  • Due to the nature of the PVD process, each plate is unique and colour may vary. No two chainrings are alike, making your new ring completely individual.
  • The ramps on the large trays are specially configured for the combinations: 50/34, 52/36, 52/38, 53/39D
  • The 34D Premium Series inner chainring is not compatible with dataloggers that use a circular spider (SRAM Quarq, Power2Max, etc). If you wish to use another configuration, it will also work, but the front derailleur will be slower and require more adjustment to be acceptable.
  • Also remember that the front derailleur can only accept a maximum difference of 16T between 2 chainrings, that's how Shimano and Sram designed them.
  • AbsoluteBlack always recommends using a new chain when fitting new chainrings.

HOW TO ADJUST THE FRONT DERAILLEUR WITH ABSOLUTEBLACK ROAD OVAL CHAINRINGS :

You will need 2mm and 5mm allen keys to make the adjustment.

If your derailleur is sticking out of the chain when moving from the small to the large chainring, this means that your "gap" is greater than 2mm when the chain is on the large chainring (see video). You may need to reduce the gap. Your front derailleur is probably also too high compared to what is recommended in the video. If your front derailleur is hesitating to move from the small to the large chainring, there are probably two problems. The gap may be too small (it should be 2mm - see video) or your cage is not parallel to the face of the large chainring.

HOW TO MOUNT THE 110/4 OVAL CHAINRINGS FOR SHIMANO 9100 / 8000 :

First of all, you need to remove the crank from your bike. Once removed, unscrew the 4 bolts that hold the two chainrings together with a T-30 torx key. Remove the two original chainrings. Locate the new oval inner chainring with the triangular timing indicator positioned behind the crank arm. The bolt holes in the small chainring are recessed - the nut heads are therefore flush with the surface of the chainring - these recesses should face you when fitting the bolts. The Absolute Black outer chainring has a specific lug shape and therefore only fits one way on the crank arm. If you are only replacing the inner chainring with an oval chainring, use the original bolts supplied with your crank. If you are upgrading to a pair of oval rings, you will need a set of ordinary "double" chainring bolts or our bolt cover set. Tighten the four bolts to about 5-7 Nm. Reassemble your crank on the bike. You may also need to adjust the front derailleur slightly.
