Folding bicycle: easy to transport and store
A folding bike is a bike whose frame can be folded to transport it in town or in public transport. You can use the folding bike to get to work but also to cycle or visit a place. It's easy to store and move around and allows space saving for storage.
The folding bike has small wheels, which makes it very handy but more sensitive to road imperfections. It contains one or more speeds with the possibility of having the transmission in the rear hub.
The bridging is more or less low depending on the models, a low bridging won't make you raise your leg to high to get on the saddle.
There are electric folding bikes and some models with a toothed belt in place of the chain to avoid oil stains.
How to choose your folding bike
When choosing a bike, whether it's a cheap folding bike or a more expensive model among well-known brands like Brompton, several criteria are to be taken into account. Depending on your use, you'll pay attention to the folding system and the size of the occupied space once folded, to the weight, to the number of speeds and to the comfort (low or high bridging).
- For small trips, you'll choose a lightweight, compact and fast bike, for when you combine cycling and public transport for example. A mono speed bike will allow weight gain.
- For longer trips, prefer larger wheels (20 inches) for better balance. The bike will be less compact and less bendable but more comfortable to ride.
